  • Grade Name: BX470
  • Insert Material: CBN - POLYCRYSTALLINE
  • ISO Range: S10-20
  • Material Description: Superalloys
  • Grade Description: 'New BX470 (T-CBN) grade inserts for sintered metals. World's highest CBN content. Along with a high CBN content, this grade has an average CBN micro-particle size of 1.5?m. The sharp edge is standard, ideal for applications requiring burr prevention and high quality finish. The high CBN content gives it a high impact resistance and excellent edge sharpness. Now that the all-purpose and highly impact resistant BX480 grade for sintered metals has established itself as a standard product, Tungaloy has begun sales of the BX470, which is particularly suited for applications where burr occurs and high surface finish is required. With a high thermal conductivity surpassed only by diamond, BX470’s high content of CBN (95.1%) makes for a particularly strong world first class impact resistant cutting tool material. At the same time, the small average size of the CBN particles (1.5?m) optimizes edge sharpness and makes the T-CBN grade particularly suited for sintered metal applications. In recent years automotive parts made principally of sintered metals have been growing steadily. The great diversity of shapes of these parts creates ever more difficult cutting conditions. When machining sintered metal, the deterioration of the edge often results in a high burr, and it may be argued that insert tool life can be affected by changing the occurrence of burr. An effective way of extending tool life is to control the wear on the edge through the cutting process. In the case of the BX470, by controlling the microscopic ceramic binding holding together the CBN, it is possible to control the wear caused by the degradation of the CBN particles and thus maintain edge sharpness. For the reasons stated above the BX470 improves upon the anti-wear characteristics of conventional products, controls burr occurrence in the machining of sintered metals and improves tool life. As an addition to the multipurpose BX480, the BX470 is particularly suited for high finish requirements and contributes to completing the line-up for sintered metal processing.'
